In this PEP talk, I would like to pose the question: Are your abdominal muscles too stiff? And can stiff abdominal muscles contribute to musculoskeletal conditions like neck, back, or shoulder pain?
To reach full elevation of the shoulders one must possess extensibility in the soft tissues that influence scapular and glenohumeral motion, adequate joint mobility of the shoulders, and adequate thoracic spine mobility. If one of these areas is not moving as intended the other two areas may undergo excess tissue strain or biomechanical faults.
It has been suggested in the literature that dysfunctional breathing is present in 5-11% of the general population and up to 83% of anxiety sufferers. So, whether you are an athlete or someone that just likes to stay active, dysfunction can impact your total wellness.
